Keds
We owe the word "sneaker" in our vocabulary to Keds. Being the first rubber sole and canvas top shoe, they coined the term because their rubber sole allowed for "sneaking" without making a noise. Keds chose their name, originally wanting to name them Peds – after feet in Latin – but the name was already taken. Keds makes sneakers as well as other casual shoes, that range in many different styles and colors, while still keeping to their original esthetic. Keds grew particularly popular in the 80s and 90s taking a big part in the fashion trends of the time. Whether worn with leg warmers, stocking, skirts or short, Keds completed any outfits and were featured in many popular television shows and films, such as Saved by the Bell, Happy Days, Family Matters, 7th Heaven and Dirty Dancing. Today, Keds have made a very big comeback, and are seen all over the streets worn by all kinds of people with different styles. |
