They are part of the company Wolverine Worldwide, and in deciding their name one of the salesmen was very creative. The traditional southern dish hush puppies were known to calm down the barking dogs in the farm. At the time the expression "barking dogs" was used to refer to feet in pain from working all day. The salesman took advantage of this opportunity and cleverly decided to name the shoes Hush Puppies, since they were able to calm down anyone's "barking dogs" – feet in pain. Since then, Hush Puppies have been an iconic item in the casual comfort shoe industry, and at times even leading in the fashion industry. In the 1990s many fashion houses decided to use these shoes in their ad campaigns and collections. Hush Puppies makes shoes and boots for men, women, and children and they have been keeping their customers satisfied, with pain free feet for almost a century now.
