Eco-Friendly Footwear: Crocs on Crocs on Crocs….IN STOCK!

Thursday, March 8th, 2012

Ya, ya, ya….so we’ve given into the hype and are now carrying for the first time ever Crocs clogs for the comfort seeking, amphibious kind. Although their eco- friendliness is still in debate (and may be full of croc as the long winded plastic substitute used, “Proprietary Closed Cell Resin” or Croslite,  tells us nothing of its carbon footprint) everyone from tree huggers to corporate cowboys are clogging around in their Crocs on and off the clock. DNA Footwear Crocs Selection

Having become a household name since their creation in 2002 Crocs are one of the leading multi-purpose shoes on the market. Their color variety and comfort maintain a loyal following from adults to kids. Give your feet a break from sweaty boots and six inch stillettos in the uber comfy clogs or sport a pair of the ballet flats. The color options vary depending on gender and age but our selection is fit to please. So why not get cozy in a pair of Crocs?

Designer(s) Spotlight: Vivienne Westwood + Melissa

viv westwood melissa shoes

What do you get when you mix quirky British style with eco-friendly Brazilian shoes? Possibly the most interesting and unique collaboration in footwear history!

“The Queen of Punk Fashion”, Vivienne Westwood, has for decades been known for making “punk” mainstream. She has come a long way from being known as the designer who famously create killer shoes that caused supermodel Naomi Campbell to stumble on the runway almost two decades ago. You may know Westwood as the over-the-top couture designer of Carrie Bradshaw’s wedding gown in Sex & The City but now she’s working with shoe manufacturer, Melissa, to design funky, yet wearable shoes.

Melissa’s shoes are cruelty-free and are all made from synthetic materials like plastic and nylon, meaning there is no guilt accompanying wearing leather or suede. Celebrities like Melissa Auf der Mar go crazy for Melissa’s eco-friendly footwear (you should have seen her when I styled her in them!).

This season, the “Queen of Punk Fashion”  joins forces with eco-chic Melissa’s shoes to create retro styles, similar to what strutted down the runways of designers like Prada, but more wearable and affordable.

No ones stumbling down the runway or the sidewalk in these killer heels!

Save Baby Elephants with SUNO Kicks

Thursday, December 8th, 2011

Not all of us can afford SUNO’s ridiculously expensive collections, but now you too can be part of the SUNO cult. Sport the latest in footwear trends with the SUNO lace-up, slip-on, canvas, colorful printed sneakers. If you’re not sold on the playful print, maybe telling you that the soles are made from recycled rubber will sell you on them. Still not sold? How about this: All the sneakers are made in Kenya and a portion of the proceeds benefits the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, an orphanage for baby elephants and rhinos.

In discussing the lower priced ($65) kicks, designers Max Osterweis and Erin Beatty stated, “By doing this we can further our company’s mission to create jobs within Kenya, and by using excess fabric from past productions we can make darn cute shoes at a really attractive price.  And we’re helping baby elephants.”

If you don’t want to ruin the environment and kill thousands of baby elephants and rhinos then you have to buy them. No seriously, BUY THEM.

Men’s Style: Workwear

Monday, December 5th, 2011

Workwear – not the suited and booted kind but workwear that’s worn while boilers are stoked, screwdrivers are turned, and paint is stroked on walls — has become a look that’s taken the catwalk by storm this autumn/fall. No matter if you choose to dismiss it or not, it has none-the-less entered the realm of being called a trend for A/W 2011.

The key pieces defining the trend are dungarees, coveralls, and overalls. Make no mistake gentleman, this trend is for people who want to do something a little different and is not for the faint hearted. But, a look cannot be complete unless your footwear completes the your outfit so step forward the manly Timberland Earthkeepers Rugged lace-up boots.

The Timberland Earthkeepers Rugged lace-up boots feature a recycled rubber sole and even organic laces. Green designs don’t mean dull products. Right now for the few in the know, it’s about shunning that polished look and instead making a clear statement that you’re ready to roll up your sleeves and get down and dirty…

Footwear News: Manolo Goes Green

Thursday, November 17th, 2011

It’s not too often you see a high-end designers make anything eco-friendly, but Manolo Blahnik recently announced a new eco-friendly line that is sure to please!

Manolo Blahnik recently teamed up with award winning, eco-friendly fashion designer, Marcia Patmos to create Earth-conscious sandals for spring, based on Manolo Blahnik classics.

These sandals, styles including heels and flats, are made of raffia and cork, as well as discarded Tilapia skin — all of which are considered sustainable materials. The styles available are the double-strap flat as well as a gorgeous, sophisticated open-toed pump. Both styles come in a combination of fluorescent yellow, ecru, black, and electric blue.

In discussing the collaboration, designer Marcia Patmos said, “I am always researching sustainable materials and developments. I love the idea of tilapia skin because it is a by-product of the food industry that would otherwise be discarded, but it’s actually a beautiful material perfect for small leather goods. I love bringing the idea of sustainability into the luxury market — it doesn’t have to be limited to T-shirts and grocery bags.”

These luxurious, unique sandals will be available in Manolo Blahnik stores in 2012, retailing at $895 a pair.

dna footwear

Inspired by classic, super casual silhouettes, but made with the lightest and most comfortable materials around, Native shoes are the best of both worlds. The Jefferson by Native is the footwear of the future — they’re the Minority Report of the shoe world. Believe me, you won’t commit any future style crimes with these beauties.

Many of us are passionate about footwear and are constantly looking for the right pair to twin with our jeans/chinos. The Jeffersons by Native are so versatile it’s unreal. You can slip them on for a quick stroll or throw them in your backpack for an impromptu day at the beach. The Jefferson by Native has some impressive features: they’re animal free, waterproof, washable, anti-microbial, available in a variety of colors, shock absorbent, and the most important feature for all guys, they’re odor resistant.

The Jefferson truly has that old Martini vibe, footwear for anybody, anywhere, anytime, that’s Jefferson…… Native.
