Birkenstock

Birkenstock

The history of Birkenstock shoes can be traced as far back as 1774, in a small German village where Johann Adam Birkenstock was registered as a shoemaker in the church archives. The Birkenstocks became a family of shoemakers, and for generations made innovative contributions to the shoe industry, such as the contoured insole for arch support which shoes of the time did not have. In the 1920s, their popularity already established in Germany, Birkenstock shoes began to be exported to countries like Austria, Switzerland, France, Italy, Belgium, Denmark, Sweden and Norway, but it was not until 1932 that the Birkenstock sandal as we know it was created, and thirty years later introduced to America. Starting small, with the classic Arizona style that became the symbol of the Birkenstock brand, Birkenstock's popularity grew during the 60s and 70s. By the 1980s Birkenstock had become a household name throughout the country, and today they produce almost three hundred style and color combinations. Birkenstock is extremely popular among people who work on their feet and nature lovers who enjoy spending time in the outdoors.
