bebe

bebe was started in 1976 by Manny Mashouf in San Francisco, California. At that point clothing categories were set in juniors and bridge, and clothing for those who fell between those categories had not yet been invented. Mashouf saw this gap in the fashion world and wanted to offer women a chance to wear age appropriate clothing, which would be flattering and make them feel good about themselves. The name was inspired by the Shakespearean quote "to be or not to be", and it called out to women to question whether or not to make statements with their clothing. He accomplished his desired task to push boundaries, and since then bebe has been a leading brand for people out of their teens and still looking for fun clothing with sensuality and sophistication. Since its beginning, bebe has been rapidly expanding, and currently has 312 stores all over the world and several divisions including bebe, bebeSport, and their famous outlet brand 2B. The incorporation of shoes into their bebe line was in high demand, and became extremely successful when it was finally implemented. Featuring extremely high heels, fun colors, haute couture designs, and bebe's signature edginess, their shoes have remained an instant hit. Their styles have been featured numerous times in famous fashion and lifestyle magazines such as Cosmopolitan, InStyle, TeenVogue, Elle and People. bebe's standard, to make products that flatter a woman's body along with their interpretation of current trends, have made them one of the top brands in fashion.
